MacBook Pro Review

The MacBook Pro, which was introduced by Apple, Inc. at the Macworld Expo in January 2006, is a laptop that’s considered to be superior to the extremely popular and stylish MacBook. Along with offering a more vivid display, a faster processor and more bells and whistles, this model has the look and feel that professionals prize.

The initial model, known as the Discrete MacBook Pro, has a look that’s reminiscent of the PowerBook G4. Made of aluminum, when introduced the basic model offered a 15-inch LCD screen, a 1.83GHz processor and 512MB of memory. Critics noted that this early MacBook Pro lacked FireWire800 and S-Video ports. The FireWire800, iSight webcam and a magnetic power connector known as Magsafe were all later included in the MacBook Pro.

The Magsafe device is designed to keep the laptop from landing on the ground when someone becomes entangled in the wire. If a person gets tangled up in the wire, the magnet easily disconnects from the computer, preventing the machine from landing on the floor and being damaged. Later, on April 24, 2006, a 17-inch version of the Discrete MacBook Pro was unveiled.

The Unibody MacBook Pro, with a streamlined, tapered look reminiscent of the upscale MacBook Air, was introduced on October 14, 2008. The 15-inch computer included a Firewire 800 port, Mini DisplayPort receptacle, ports on the left side and the hard drive slot on the right. This redesigned model was a definite upgrade over the Discrete MacBook Pro.

On January 6, 2009 at the MacWorld Expo, a 17-inch version was introduced to the public. Although it was larger, the new model was still ultra-light. Once again, it utilized unibody construction, creating a sleek, urbane, sophisticated look. Although the new Unibody MacBook Pro was deeper and broader than the iMac and MacBook Air, it was also a tad thinner.

There are various interesting features in the Unibody MacBook Pro, including a high-end, permanent lithium polymer battery, the classic backlit, sunken keyboard and a larger, easy to manipulate trackpad. The improved trackpad offers multi-touch control, allowing the operator to utilize various touch points on the pad, sending numerous commands virtually simultaneously. A high-gloss screen with a reflective glass layer is standard, while users can opt for a more expensive anti-glare matte finish.

The lithium battery is a unique device. Non-removable, it can keep the MacBook Pro running for eighth hours straight and may be recharged up to 1000 times, reaching 80% of its original charge capacity each time.

A used MacBook Pro has the look and offers the performance that professionals crave. For the multitasking, multimedia maven this is an excellent choice. The graphics are superior, the touchpad is versatile and the memory is far reaching. This computer is durable, fast, easy to manipulate and handsome. It’s named “Pro” for a reason—those who own and use this particular MacBook define themselves as professional in every way. This is the best of the best portables that Apple offers.
