MacBook Pro Review

October 27th, 2009 Used Mac Deals Posted in Mac Reviews No Comments »

The MacBook Pro, which was introduced by Apple, Inc. at the Macworld Expo in January 2006, is a laptop that’s considered to be superior to the extremely popular and stylish MacBook. Along with offering a more vivid display, a faster processor and more bells and whistles, this model has the look and feel that professionals prize.

The initial model, known as the Discrete MacBook Pro, has a look that’s reminiscent of the PowerBook G4. Made of aluminum, when introduced the basic model offered a 15-inch LCD screen, a 1.83GHz processor and 512MB of memory. Critics noted that this early MacBook Pro lacked FireWire800 and S-Video ports. The FireWire800, iSight webcam and a magnetic power connector known as Magsafe were all later included in the MacBook Pro. Read the rest of this entry »

Magic Mouse Review

October 21st, 2009 Used Mac Deals Posted in Mac Reviews Comments Off

Apple just released their new magic mouse and it's pretty awesome. It's a bluetooth mouse that also incorporates the same type of touch scrolling as the iPhone.

The Magic Mouse touch scrolling is fluid and works with any amount of fingers on most of the mouse surface all the way down to the Apple logo. Flicking up and down gets you up and down web pages fast, as long as you have "momentum" turned on in the settings. Turn it off and you get fine-grained scrolling if you want to slowly navigate through a document, and full 360 degree scrolling for things like images.

It takes some getting used to as the ergonomics aren't exactly natural due to the low profile, but this is certainly is the biggest advancement in mouse technology since wireless came onto the scene.

iMac Review

May 18th, 2009 Used Mac Deals Posted in Mac Reviews No Comments »

Apple, Inc. originally introduced the iMac, a desktop computer, on August 15, 1998. The latest in the iMac line were released on March 3, 2009. Models in this series include the iMac G3, iMac G4, iMac G5 and the Intel-based iMac. Over the years, iMacs have been noted for their trendy looks, ease of use and, of all things, USB port. The “i” in iMac stands for Internet as Apple sought to stress its connection to the rest of the world with this computer.

The iMac was the first Macintosh to utilize a USB port. The USB was the only peripheral interface in the original iMac. Although the USB connection was made by Intel, it was rarely found in PCs. Apple’s decision to use the port helped popularize it, inspiring other peripheral creators to make sure that they designed their products to use the interface. The USB port allowed hardware manufacturers to ensure their creations were compatible with both Macs and PCs. With the success of the USB port, Apple started to eliminate other interfaces from its products in favor of this universal connector. Read the rest of this entry »

Mac Pro Review

Apple’s Mac Pro was originally released on August 7, 2006. Since that time, it has been the workstation workhorse of the Macintosh line. It’s the fastest computer manufactured by the company. This model is powered by Intel, offers a Xeon microprocessor and has room for up to four internal hard drives. Since the Mac Pro’s debut, there have been two new versions. The first was released in early 2008 and the latest in early 2009.

The original Mac Pro offered an Intel 5000x chipset, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics with 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM, a 250GB Serial ATA hard drive with a 8MB cache and two 2.66GHz Dual-core Intel Xeon Woodcrest processors. The front side bus had 1333MHz of power and the optical drive was a 16x SuperDrive with double-layer support and 1GB of memory. These features made the Mac Pro a highly desirable desktop—fast, versatile, vivid and expansive.  Read the rest of this entry »

MacBook Review

May 17th, 2009 Used Mac Deals Posted in Mac Reviews No Comments »

The MacBook, which was first introduced by Apple Inc. in May 2006, is a Macintosh notebook computer that replaced the iBook and 12” Powerbook. It has proven to be extremely popular, becoming the top-selling Macintosh ever. The MacBook of today is certainly different than the original model. There are two types of MacBooks—the polycarbonate version and the aluminum unibody model. The polycarbonate MacBook was the first of this line.

The MacBook was thinner than the G4 iBook that it replaced but wider than the PowerBook. It included a vivid widescreen display, a specially designed “MagSafe” power port and an Intel Core Duo processor. The “MagSafe” power port was a welcomed safety feature as it allowed the power cord to detach from the computer if someone moving by got caught in it. In the past, the power cord would stay attached to the portable computer and if some accidentally got wrapped in it, the computer tended to end up on the floor. Read the rest of this entry »
